TDI Decompression Procedures

This course examines the theory, methods and procedures of planned stage decompression diving. The objective of this course is to train divers how to plan and conduct a standard staged decompression dive not exceeding a maximum depth of 45msw unless taught in conjunction Extended Range Course.

The most common equipment requirements, gear set-ups, decompression techniques and decompression mixtures (including oxygen and Nitrox) are presented.

Decompression Procedures - Training Prerequisites

  • Be a minimum age of eighteen (18)
  • Minimum certification of Advanced Open Water Diver
  • Must be Nitrox certified (or can be run together)
  • Show proof of 25 logged dives.

Decompression Procedures - Minimum Equipment Prerequisites

  • Must have twin primary tanks (volume appropriate for planned dives and either independent or manifold with appropriate SPG(s))
  • Primary tanks fitted with two 1st and 2nd stages and contents gauge
  • Appropriate BCD
  • SMB and reel with 15m of 3mm line (tube style - colour orange)
  • Appropriate thermal protection
  • Two depth gauge and bottom timers (or two computers or
  • Computer with 2nd depth gauge and bottom timer)
  • Compass, wrist slate and pocket slate
  • Primary mask and backup mask
  • Primary torch and backup torch
