We had decided to spend some time working out the two Fairey Firefly’s. They were WW2 training aircraft, these two, flying off the British aircraft carrier HMS Theseus, hit each other & crashed in to the bay off Frankston. I had dived one of the planes & spoke with a friend of mine who had dived the other. He confirmed the marks we had were correct for the second plane. I also had some electronics that I wanted to test, so we thought this was a great opportunity to get things sorted. However, as is often the case with diving even the best laid plans can a wry. The viz was so bad that the divers couldn’t even see each other & so the diving needed to be abandoned.
