SHB Batman – Sunday 14th September 2025

Divers: Chris P, Ian, Seb, Nath, James, Matt, Graham, Simon & Mark

It’s been a while since we ran a Graveyard dive, and so there was plenty of excitement as we stood on the pier wanting for the boat. The Batman was an auxiliary navel vessel during the 1880s & the deck reinforcement & gun swivel are still visible. During WW1 she was used as a mine sweeper in Bass Straight. It was long thought that the Batman was the first ever wreck dived in the Graveyard, but some investigating by SOE has shown that it was in fact her sister ship the Fawkner that was the first wreck dived. Conditions were perfect today, with only a slight chop on the water & 15m viz, although there was some plankton in the water making photography difficult.
