Wareatea – Saturday 28th October 2023

Divers: Seb, Nath, James , Ben, Youri, Josh, Tim & Mark

We have been trying to get back to dive the Wareatea for some time now. Of course it is one of the better wrecks in the graveyard & also a very interesting site to dive. But the main focus of our dive was to recover a camera rig that was dropped from the boat on our last dive here. All of the talk over the past few weeks has been that no one thought it possible to find a camera after five weeks of rolling around on the bottom, but we gave ourselves a good chance of finding it.
Although the wind was blowing 30-35 knots all of this morning, once we were out side the Heads the seas were quite good.
We put in two shot lines, one on the wreck & one where we thought the camera was dropped. We dropped a team, using scooters, down the camera line. The camera was located about four metres from the shot line :).
The other teams that dived the wreck also had great dives with the viz being about 10 plus metres & no current or surge. A very successful day all round – hopefully the weather holds for our dives next weekend.
