It was near perfect conditions as we stood on the pier waiting for our boat to pick us up. No wind & oily flat water, just what we want for a couple of nice dives out through the Heads. Unfortunately, though, the one piece of the puzzle that was missing was the visibility!! With all the rain on the Bellerine Peninsular washing down the Barwon River, we were expecting to get some dirty water at the surface. The fresh rainwater normally sits on top of the salt water, making the top 5-10metres quite dirty. So we weren’t surprised as we descended into coffee coloured water & then was cleared right up at about 10-12 metres to some very nice viz :). However, when we reached the 25m depth there was a plume of silt covering the bottom 5-8 metres. This is unusual however it does highlight just how much rain we are getting at the moment. Needless to say we had to abandon any hopes of having a successful dive.
